currently coveting: catbird alphabet rings

if you ever happen to be hanging out in williamsburg (nyc), you must visit Catbird. i stopped into their sweet little shop one sunday afternoon and instantly fell in love with the contents of the entire store. i am particularly smitten with these stackable alphabet rings. when i got married this past fall, i took my husband’s last name, making my maiden name into my middle name – which means my new name is still a bit of a novelty to me. i would love to further celebrate it with a set of all three initials. i just happen to have my golden birthday coming up at the end of the month, so it looks like i know what items 1, 2 and 3 are on my wish list!

if you are not in the new york area, make sure to check out their online store. i’m not necessarily the girliest of girls, but you can’t help appreciating how delicate and darling their jewelry selection is.

may books

under the banner of heaven – jon krakauer if you’re like me, you have a morbid fascination regarding mormon fundamentalists. and this extreme interest was brought on my watching big love. particularly when you burn through the latest 3 seasons in about a month and just want more episodes! under the banner of heaven delves deeply into the lives several mormon fundamentalists and the history of joseph smith and his successors. truly some harrowing stuff in this book. a few nights i read some of the chapters right before bed and had nightmares of being kidnapped and taken to a commune. eek. i would definitely recommend this book though. it’s like a really horrible car crash – you just can’t look away.

running with scissors – augusten burroughs this book was crazy and sad. it’s burroughs recounting his childhood where his father left him and would not even take his calls and his crazy mother signed him off to live with her extremely unorthodox psychiatrist. i won’t tell you much about it in case you want to read it, but it’s a little bit funny and a really sad story about some supremely messed up people. also fascinating in the car crash kind of way. he has other memoirs and i ended up liking his writing style so i may check others out.

2 non-fiction books in one month! i normally don’t read non-fiction and i’m actually on a third one right now. perhaps i will make it the summer of non-fiction. we’ll see.

new dress #2! i love the ruffle detail and that it looks tailored but the fabric is really versatile and lightweight. i wore it on a 4 mile walk the other night and didn’t get too hot at all. i also like that it’s sleeveless so even on warm days i can pair it with a cardigan and have it not be too heavy.

odds and ends

minnesota was at its finest today; such perfect midwestern day, weatherwise. a great day full of food, friends and a hike through lovely afton state park – resulting in a tired little puppy, meaning a relaxing night for me! thought i would end the day with a quick here and there post 🙂

my current favorite lunch: whole wheat couscous with grape tomatoes, fresh basil and crumbled feta. i’m going on week 2 of eating it every day for lunch and it’s still sooooo good.

look at these beauties! the grocery store was doing buy one, get one and i couldn’t pass them up. they smell (and taste) so sweet. some of these were already sliced up and put into a spring mix with almonds and raspberry poppyseed vinaigrette for dinner AND added to shortcake with whipped cream for dessert 🙂

me and 1 of 3 new dresses i bought on saturday. this weekend i did some major summer clothes shopping. my summer attire that can be worn to work is pretty dismal. i had been wearing the same 3 things to work for the past 3 weeks. but after this weekend i am the proud owner of 3 more dresses, 2 cardigans and a polka-dotted headband.

vintage paydirt

last friday, on a whim, i wanted to go into everyday people (the uptown location). i found this great cocktail ring and while i was standing at the counter about to pay for it, i spotted a ridiculously adorable purse displayed on the back counter. when i asked to see it, the clerk grabbed the bag and a MATCHING PAIR OF SHOES. how could i say no to that?

the handbag and my new gigantic and favorite ring

the shoes, oh the shoes!

goodnight! happy monday!

blacklist vintage sale

all of the following items were $1 each! it took a lot of digging through really random stuff, but i’m very pleased with the things i ended up finding.i love this gray!

and look at the nice clasp. it folds out pretty big to make searching for things within it easy.

i think this off-white clutch is adorable. i’ve been half-heartedly looking for a clutch bag for the past two months to no avail. but for $1, i had to snatch this up.

i really like the clasp detail and the dusty rose lining (that’s in really good shape still!)

shoes! i have been needing more heels/dressy work shoes. but have not wanted to spend the money on them. i wear A LOT of black, so these will be good for brightening up all that black a little bit.

and more gray! i love gray. and have been wearing lots of purple with gray lately. and recently acquired a gray belt. these sandals were meant to be found by me.

i really like thrifting/vintage shopping. i am going to try and get out there and do it more.

oh, and!

i got this lovely thing about a month ago – it’s kind of a signature piece so i can’t wear it too often, but i think all the tiny details are great!
